Fellowship .. good times .. meeting people .. building lasting friendships .. service to the community .. learning new skills .. leadership and personal development - these are just some of the good things about being a member of the Waverley Lions Club.

The motto of every member is simply "we serve" and  Waverley Lions seek to put this statement into action. The club manages a number of ongoing and short term projects as well as supporting other clubs and community bodies throughout the year.

The Semorishi Project

Lion Mary Mahloko-Boardman, husband Lion Ken and children Naledi and Sereto visited South Africa in May -June 2010 to present a cheque to the school principal at Mary's home village Semorishi to finance the building of a school library. The family also attended several of the World Cup matches.

The Boardman family at Lesedi a cultural village that showcases all of the indigenous people groups in South Africa (The guy is dressed in a traditional Zulu outfit)

Mary's mother Elizabeth's 78th Birthday Cake, Speech & Celebrations. Mary's mum is the lady seated to the far left. As is tradition, the family had a marquee setup in the back yard

The former School Principal, Mr Mokoka now retired (he received the first donation cheque a few years ago...and also taught Mary when she went to school there) Mary of course is in the middle and the new Principal Mr. Setati is on the right. The cheque converted from $6000 AUD to around ZAR37,701 Sth African Rand.

The School Library Building foundation has been poured and as you can see from the photos, the bricks have arrived. The builder has hired a couple of bricklayers to assist him.

The School Principal Mr Setati (left), Mary (middle) and Mr Kgadima (the builder) on the right, with various students in the background standing on the site of the new building under construction.
