LIONSVILLE

Members of the Waverley Lions Club demonstrated their vision and community spirit in 1976 when "Lionsville" at 88 Winbirra Parade, Ashwood was founded with the support of the Waverley City Council.

The village is now a separate incorporated body, managed by a Committee of Management comprising past and present members of the club and members of the community. The total insured investment is in the order of $3,500,000.00 which is a significant contribution to the community.

Currently, there are 29 housing units for elderly citizens. Residents come from people who live in or who have lived in the City of Monash or if they lived outside the city, wished to be near their children.. Lionsville is a non profit organisation, and charges a rental fee based on the old age pension.

Lionsville also has a community centre available to its residents and to neighbouring Lions Clubs. The Ashwood - Mt Waverley Lions Club meets there on the first and third Wednesday evening each month. Waverley Lions Club Board meetings are held there.

The committee of management is currently working with the City of Monash to add a further 8 units and awaits final Council approval to commence this exciting phase 3 project in late 2009 or early 2010.
