The Lions Cord Blood Foundation Inc. was
initiated in 1996 by Lion Laurie Denton (deceased) a former member of the
Lions Club of Waverley Inc. It is managed by the Lions Club of Waverley Inc.
and is a District Project of 201V5. Since the Multiple District Convention
in Queensland in 2006 the Foundation is again a Category B Project
continuing through to 2009.

Aims of the Foundation
To supply the cryonic chambers for the storage of collected stem cell
packages.
Assist with equipment when requested by the Royal Children's Hospital
(Melbourne), the Box Hill Hospital in Box Hill and the William Angliss
Hospital in Ferntree Gully (suburbs of Melbourne).
The Foundation raises funds and awareness through guest speaking, The
Lion magazine, District Newsletter articles, requests for disbursements
from Lions & Lioness Clubs in the District of 201V5, all participating V
Districts and Lions and Lioness Clubs throughout Australia.
Participating Lions Clubs throughout these Districts raise funds by
organising events within their clubs.
In 2005, 2006 and 2007 the Foundation ran very successful GROCERY
GRABs with Lions Clubs from all over Australia participating in
conjunction with their local supermarket.
The funds raised from the Grocery Grab in 2005 have been allocated to
purchase 10 cords for the Bone Marrow Donor Institute.
The next Grocery Grab will occur between August and September in 2008.

The cost of retrieval, testing and storage of a single successful cord
is $1500+.
Recent allocations made to the Bone Marrow Donor Institute (BMDI), Cord
Blood Bank have been for the purchase of a Cryogenic Freezer,
Cryoshipper & Cryoshipper Data Loggers. Total donated to the BMDI until
May 2005 - $37,751
Also from Lions Cord Blood Foundation Inc. funds: Collection and storage
costs for - 10 Cords from monies raised by the Grocery Grab, August 2005
- $15,000.
Collection and storage costs for - 10 Cords from Trust Fund, September
2005 - $15,000
To date the Foundation has raised over $400,000.00 for the Bone Marrow
Donor Institute, Cord Blood Bank and shall continue to support the BMDI
through 2006 and beyond.
